It is primarily responsible for wear, corrosion, and seizure resistance properties, as well as reducing the coefficient of friction and adhesion to other metals (such as aluminum).  <\/li><li>Diffusion zone: located just below the white layer, generally composed of nitrogen in solid solution and in the form of iron nitrides and nitrides of alloying elements, dispersed in the microstructure of the steel, with a thickness that can reach up to a few tenths of millimeters \u2013 which generates a hardness gradient in the substrate. It is primarily responsible for the fatigue resistance property. <br><br><p>CLIN\u2122 processes can be associated with a surface finishing step and a post-oxidation treatment, forming a thin surface layer (0.2 to 3 microns thick) of iron oxide (Fe\u2083O\u2084).
