Essa deposi\u00e7\u00e3o acontece via processos de PVD\/PACVD (<em>Physical Vapor Deposition\/Plasma Activated Chemical Vapor Deposition), <\/em>resultando em finas camadas com poucos \u00b5m de espessura (entre 2\u00b5m e 5\u00b5m). No PVD, o material a ser depositado \u00e9 inicialmente vaporizado e ionizado formando um plasma. Por diferen\u00e7a de potencial, os \u00edons, de forma pura ou combinados com \u00e1tomos de nitrog\u00eanio e \/ ou carbono, s\u00e3o atra\u00eddos para a superf\u00edcie das pe\u00e7as a serem revestidas. Adicionalmente, ocorre o CVD, onde o elemento a ser depositado, via plasma, vem da decomposi\u00e7\u00e3o de um g\u00e1s a partir de uma rea\u00e7\u00e3o qu\u00edmica. Esta \u00faltima pode ser composta de algum elemento met\u00e1lico (ex.: Cr), ou de um nitreto met\u00e1lico (ex.: CrN), ou de um carboneto met\u00e1lico (ex.: WC, WCC), ou ainda de uma composi\u00e7\u00e3o das tr\u00eas possibilidades. Dependendo das condi\u00e7\u00f5es do processo de revestimento, consegue-se regular dureza (at\u00e9 3000 HV), rugosidade e o efeito de lubricidade da camada, de forma a agregar-se em um \u00fanico produto a caracter\u00edstica deslizante do grafite (baix\u00edssimo coeficiente de atrito e baixa tend\u00eancia ao engripamento) com a elevada dureza do diamante. Al\u00e9m de tais caracter\u00edsticas, o acabamento est\u00e9tico sofisticado e a deposi\u00e7\u00e3o em baixa temperatura (at\u00e9 200\u00b0C), fazem do DLC alternativa para pe\u00e7as complexas de elevada performance.<\/p><p>Na tabela ao lado podem ser observados alguns exemplos de camadas DLC para componentes mec\u00e2nicos de precis\u00e3o.
