Tribology is the science that studies the interaction of surfaces in relative motion, focusing on the mechanisms of friction, wear, fatigue, and corrosion, in the presence or absence of lubrication.
HEF works on analyzing defective parts brought in by clients from various industrial sectors (automotive, agricultural, mining, among others). From the moment the problem is presented, they gather various parameters that could contribute to the failure in question, such as: the material of the part, lubrication, working pressures and temperatures, working environment, operating speeds, the geometry of the contact between parts, the type of force applied, and the surface properties present (hardness, roughness, structural defects, etc).
Based on the parameters gathered, HEF seeks to understand the degradation mechanisms present in the client’s application, so that it can offer the best tribological solutions for the component. These may involve modifications that impact the design of the component or system in question, a change of materials, or the use of surface treatments.
Subsequently, an experimental phase can be conducted to qualify and characterize the performance of the proposed alternative solutions. For all these aspects, HEF has a variety of tribometers, as well as recognized experience in designing dedicated test benches, should this be necessary for the application. The objective of this experimentation is to replicate, as faithfully as possible, the operating conditions of the real application and the identified degradation mechanisms.
In this way, HEF is able to offer its clients tribological solutions that optimize their products and systems in efficiency and reliability. Tribology has always been at the heart of our activities, and it’s this expertise that we put at your disposal.
